You Are Here: For the Love of Maps

June 13, 2017 7 Comments

I’ve written before about my love of city maps – they are an easy, often free souvenir that can be framed or cut up and collaged, used as wallpaper or simply taped all over the inside of your closet, as my girls do.

But, I also love to invest in beautiful maps AFTER a trip from a city we explored…or find artistic maps or posters from cities I’ve lived in – or live in – like Nashville.

I have a map of the Portland bridges from my time living in Oregon – it is simple and architectural and explains where the bridges are located and other facts like the length and history of each bridge.

After we returned from a trip to Paris with my girls, I found a paper cut map online that I fell in love with. I especially loved that the Eiffel Tower – while beloved – wasn’t the primary focus of the map. My girls can look at it for hours and find something new or see the boats from the Jardin de Luxemburg or the zoo animals from the Jardin de Plantes and remember those magical places and experiences.

In my kitchen, I have a Nashville map drawn by a local artist. Again, I love the simplicity and also the personality of the city that is evident in this piece of art.

Giveaway: (This Giveaway is closed) Recently, I learned about Modern Map Art where they create gorgeous map prints of cities all over the world. To celebrate our 2nd week of The Wandering Rumpus Summer Launch Party, Modern Map Art is giving away one 12 x 18 map print of the city of your choice. To enter, check out the Modern Map Art city prints and comment with the city map you would choose if you win. Then, head over to The Wandering Rumpus Instagram for another entry.

Entries will be accepted until midnight Thursday. You must comment on THIS post to receive an entry! Good luck and here’s to mapping out your next amazing adventure!

Love this idea, I have been all over with my 2 year old and this would be a great way to catalog our adventures!

Right? I have found it’s a lot of fun to re-visit a trip this way – plus the kids can learn some map skills, lol.
