Even though my youngest is now 7 – as I’m planning trips, I still consider whether or not to bring her car seat when we travel. Are the car seat laws different in the city we’re traveling to? If we’re renting a car, will the rental car company have a car seat we can use? Should I check our car seat with the airline or borrow one from someone local? Do I even know anyone local?
Admittedly, all of these questions add a little more stress and planning when it comes to traveling with kids.
On the other side of that, parents learn fast that when you have a baby you get a lot of stuff! From those car seats and strollers to swings and cribs; from pack-n-plays and highchairs to booster seats and activity centers. We had 3 girls in 5 years and accumulated an inordinate amount of baby stuff. Some things were precious and essential even when traveling (my oldest adored her swing…my middle would fall fast asleep in the stroller on long walks) – and others hardly touched – after 3 kids, they were practically brand new. And then suddenly they all grew out of the baby stuff and we were left donating and selling our mountains of baby gear.
I was recently introduced to BabyQuip which allows you to rent out that equipment to traveling families – genius! How brilliant to simply rent the essentials you need in the city you’re traveling to? I love the idea of supporting families who travel by making the “stuff” part easier and also utilizing your own baby gear to make extra money – perhaps even to afford more family travel, ha!
BabyQuip founders say “We empower parents — often stay-at-home moms — to become successful baby gear rental entrepreneurs while also helping families travel easier.”
Supporting and encouraging families to travel with kids AND empowering moms and women to start their own businesses to support families who travel is pretty cool. I also love that BabyQuip was started by a mom!
More about BabyQuip:
Similar to Uber or Lyft, AirBnB or HomeAway and other sharing economy businesses, baby equipment rental companies like BabyQuip use the peer-to-peer sharing of goods and services to meet a need. BabyQuip also helps providers launch their own business and train as an entrepreneur. The BabyQuip platform creates a marketplace at which Independent Quality Providers build their own business, deliver and set up baby gear they own in the city where they live. Providers can do local sales and marketing (with the support and training of the incredible network), select the gear they want to rent and set their own rental and delivery fees. BabyQuip pays providers 81.5 percent of the rental fee and 81.5 percent of the delivery fee on each order. Providers keep one hundred percent of their tips. Plus, BabyQuip provides support, training, insurance, advertising, marketing, a supportive online community, and so much more!

I love this! Thank you so much for sharing. I have heard of baby gear rental companies but haven’t used one yet. Our daughter is still a toddler, and we plan to have more children, but I would love to eventually rent out our baby gear! What a great side business idea!
