Here are 20 more FREE things to do with your kids in Music City:
- Learn all about the songwriters behind your favorite country tunes at the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in the Music City Center. There are 3 interactive screens with video, audio and tons of digital information. Meanwhile, parents can relax on the rocking chairs and admire the memorabilia.
- Take the escalator up behind the Songwriters Hall of Fame to walk over 6th Avenue which runs straight through the Music City Center.
- Explore the lobby and balcony of Nashville’s historic Union Station Hotel.
- Visit Hatch Show Print — you can look around the shop and gallery. Tours have an admission price, but the Family Program passes are free and distributed 30 minutes prior to each session at Universal Music Group Hatch Show Print Space for Design. These are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Ages 5 and up and accompanying adults.
- Find your favorite stars (and learn about someone new) at the Country Music Walk of Fame Park.
- Explore the statues outside the Schermerhorn Symphony Center including the Recording Angel, The Flutest, the Birth of Apollo Fountain and the Nashville Firefighters Memorial.
- Try one of The Nashville Symphony’s series of free concerts every summer at various locations throughout Nashville.
- Visit one of Nashville incredible parks and playgrounds such as Dragon Park, Centennial Park and Bicentennial Park.
- Take a Nashville Civil Rights walk.
- Get lost in a Music City Record Shop such as Grimeys or Great Escape.
- Explore Vanderbilt University Campus. Vanderbilt University has a beautiful campus perfect for strolling, seeing beautiful trees (that are labeled with the variety), and picnicking in the shade.
- Explore Belmont University Campus rated one of the 10 most beautiful campuses in an urban setting.
- Learn about state government and the history behind Tennessee’s Capitol building — some from before 1859. Staff of the State Museum offers tours Monday through Friday at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m..All tours begin at the Information Desk on the first floor.
- Head to the Sheraton Nashville Downtown to ride the glass elevators that carry you 28 stories.
- Visit Savannah’s Candy Kitchen on Broadway where staff is usually serving up samples at the door.
- Sun-gaze at Vanderbilt’s Dyer Observatory. The Dyer’s open-house days (the first Tuesday of every month, from 9 a.m. to noon) offers visitors the chance to try out the site’s solar telescope, free of charge.
- Stop by a Nashville Predators hockey practice at the Centennial Sportsplex. The sessions are always open to the public, and scheduling updates can be found on the Predators’ website.
- Try a first Saturday art crawl. Every first Saturday of the month, art galleries open their doors from 6-9pm for art lovers and browsers. Enjoy contemporary art, wine, and hors d’oeuvres as you stroll among the galleries spanning every aspect of the art world in Nashville.
- Soak in more art appreciation and history at the Fisk University Galleries. The Aaron Douglas Gallery features classical and contemporary African art, modern and contemporary African-American art, other American and European and folk art. The Carl Van Vechten Gallery houses a changing schedule of traveling exhibitions and temporary installations from Fisk University’s permanent art collections.
