Are you familiar with Stitch Fix? Stitch Fix is an online clothing shop designed to provide personal styling services for women, men and kids at an affordable cost. Originally, Stitch Fix was created for women who need nicer clothes for events/work but who don’t want to spend hours combing through clothing stores to put together outfits. I’ve been using Stitch Fix for a couple years and my husband, Brad, has tried it too. We both really love it for travel, work and just to refresh our closets with some classics every once in awhile. Plus, it can work for budgeting too.
About Stitch Fix
- When you start Stitch Fix, you simply fill out your information through prompts on the site which includes measurements, a style quiz and several questions (i.e. no turtlenecks or I need a blazer for work) so that your stylist gets a feel for what you are looking for and what your shape, size and preferences are like.
- There is also a place to share a Pinterest board with the stylist. I created a “Travel Style” board years ago, and it was very easy for me to share the board’s URL on the site.
- You can sign up to do an automatic fix (which comes at the same time every month) or you can order a fix whenever you need something or have an event coming up.
- There is a $20 styling fee for each box. If you decide to purchase anything from your box, the $20 styling fee is applied towards the cost of your clothing. If you don’t keep anything in the box, then you are out the 20 bucks.
- You can also specify a price range for items.
- Women (& men) receive FIVE items in each box which can include accessories, shoes, outerwear, dresses, tops, etc. You can also specify that you don’t want to receive accessories or shoes, for example. You can also specify that you need a new sports coat or a pair of black jeans and the stylist will send them.
- Typically, I order a new box every 6 months or so and sometimes I keep everything (if you keep everything, you receive 25% off the box) and sometimes I keep two or three items. I’ve found a few items that I adore and wear constantly. Brad has too.
Stitch Fix Kids
My middle daughter, especially, loves when I receive Stitch Fix boxes. She often asks if she can get a box, so when Stitch Fix Kids became available, I decided to surprise her with a Stitch Fix Kids Box for her 11th birthday. In all honesty, I don’t spend much on my kids’ clothes. I look for sales, hand-me-downs from neighbors and friends and use consignment shops for most of their clothes, so this was a treat. Having said that, I found the prices to be reasonable for sturdy, cute, unique clothes.
Spoiler: She loved everything about it – getting the box, trying on the clothes and even the sweet note from her stylist. The clothes she received are great for play, travel and special occasions.
How Stitch Fix Kids Works
- After filling out a Stitch Fix Kids profile (which I did without her but kids can certainly participate), the stylist ships your child a box of 8-12 items (tops, dresses, shoes, pants, pajamas, etc). We received 10 items.
- Kids try on the clothing, you buy what you want, and send back the rest.
- Stitch Fix Kids offers sizes 2T to 14.
- Like the adult boxes, Stitch Fix Kids charges a $20 styling fee for each box. Similarly, if you decide to purchase anything from the box, the $20 styling fee is applied towards the cost of clothing. If you don’t keep anything in the box, then you are out the 20 bucks.
- If you chose to buy everything in your box, you’ll get a 25% off discount. Shipping and returns are always free.
- These are the starting prices according to Stitch Fix Kids:
- Leggings – $10
- Dresses – $18
- Outerwear – $24
- Graphic Tees – $12
- Denim – $18
- Lila received 10 items and we kept 6. We returned 4 items simply because the fit was a little off or it wasn’t totally her style.
Here’s What She Got (& Kept)
Floral Dress with Stripe Trim
This was my favorite item in the box. It is a little sporty and a little feminine. Lila doesn’t love dresses these days but she loved this one!
Linen Dress
This dress was really cute on and fit her perfectly. She’s already announced that she wants to wear this one for her school picture day. It looks like separates, but the dress is all connected.
Cold Shoulder Striped Top
Neither Lila nor I love “cold Shoulder” tops, but this one was so sweet and fit her so well. We got a discount on this top due to a weird piece of thread sewn in (they offered to exchange or reimburse, but Lila loved it and even liked the little mishap in the shirt)
Blush & Teal Top
She received 2 tops that are the same style but different colors that are nice for play. Her little sister has already borrowed the blush shirt.
Rainbow Striped Denim Shorts
These have been worn the most since she received her box — nearly every day. They fit her perfectly and we both love the detail. They have a rainbow stripe on the sides which makes them extra special. Also, they are super stretchy.
Here’s What We Didn’t Keep
- Another pair of denim shorts that were too small;
- A black and white striped swing dress that was too short and we have similar dresses;
- A matching floral top and bottom that just wasn’t her style;
- Another “cold shoulder” top that wasn’t her style and fit her a little weird.
In the end, we are so happy with our Stitch Fix Kids experience and we will definitely do it again. My youngest has already requested a box for herself. My oldest is more tentative (13), but I think she may enjoy it later when she has a more defined style. The box also included stickers and a box challenge where Lila got crafty and transformed her box into a carousel — we adore carousels, so this was especially fun.
If you’d like to give it a try — for you, your kids or your spouse/partner, use my link for $25 off your first order (and I’ll get $25 off too).

This is such a cute idea. I love that you can do it for kids as well. I hate shopping, so this is perfect for me!
